We all have things we want to do. Aspects of our lives we wish to change. What more, we want to do as many of these as quickly as possible and accomplish as much as we can, and are thus effectively left trying to do everything at once…
Which as we all learn the hard way: doesn’t work. AT ALL.
We may think we are making progress on many fronts at once – and we probably are – but there is a point when it all catches up with us. A point where we are unable to continue pouring all of our energy into each of these in such a focused way. Where life happens and we are forced to redirect our attention elsewhere.
It is then when we fall. We miss a day of working out. Forget to brush our teeth. Are too busy and get too distracted by the trials of life to write everyday… We miss the chance to fulfill our promise to ourselves to perform the habits.
So how do we avoid this all happening?
We start small.
We focus on one (maybe a couple) different habits to form at a time. And REALLY focus on them. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted so easily – even towards seemingly good or productive things. Take note of any such ideas to return to later, but don’t allow them to get in the way NOW.
